Today I am sharing a page for Throwback Thursday and I pulled out the Midnight collection which I still have a nice stash of…not surprising as I have hoarded a lot of Cocoa Vanilla products!
Here is a look at my page..
To start my page I used a stitching cutfile from Paige Evans of a branch which I stitched using a chain stitch in a soft pink which creates some nice dimension. This serves as the landing space for my photo..
Next, I pulled out lots of florals, hearts and butterflies from the ephemera pack and accessory sticker sheet to fill out the stitched branch and add lots of interest and dimension.
I also added some stickers to the top of my photo to add more interest..
For my title I used the word ‘Happy’ from the Chipboard pieces to complete my title, then I used one of the clear stickers under the word Happy to ground it to my page..
Under my title I used a banner from the chipboard pieces..
To finish my page I popped a few more of the clear stickers around my page to fill in some of the open spots…I love how this this turned out and finished off my page.
Thanks for popping by today, I hope you found some inspiration to maybe pull out some of your older CVS stash to get crafty!
Hello crafty Friends! Almost each year I have a pleasure to inspire you on Valentine’s Day and this year is no different! I thought that instead of another layout, I will share with you three simple cards I made for my Valentines at home – hubby and two daughters. Each year I keep making cards for them adding few love words inside to show them my appreciation for each of them. I also add something sweet as a little bonus 🙂 This year I decided to dive into older stash and found some papers and embellishments from “Midnight” collection. This line was an amazing combination of soft pink and coral with very dark and deep navy and purple. And those florals… They were so pretty and unique.
Each card has a similar composition with a little shaker in the middle, filled with sequins and some wood veneers from very ancient CVS collections (I still have a box full af them and I keep adding them here and there to many projects).
One of the cards is for my hubby and I made it darker than two others. It also doesn’t have any florals. I added little jars filled with hearts instead. One of them is from Ephemera Pack and one is taken from the 6*12 Stickers Sheet (yes, I still have those too 🙂 – I am a hoarder). “Midnight” collection came with a set of Words Die Cuts but I already used up most of the love related words so I reached out to similar set from “Happiness” collection. It has similar font and similar color so it was a perfect match!
Second card is for my younger daughter and it also has shaker in the middle. If you look closely, you will notice that for my card bases I used a pattern paper. I am using my A5 Paper Pads for this purpose. Each card is sized 10*14 cm and it helps me use up some of the older papers! The good thing about those Paper Pads from CVS is that they are white on the back! Perfect for adding personal message inside the card. This time I added some flowers from Ephemera Pack trimming the whote outline first. This made them a little bit smaller and a better fit for the card. My card title is the only one made with “Midnight” Words Die Cuts. It was the only full phrase in love theme that I was able to create with it.
Last card is for my older daughter. I tried to keep it a little bit less “sweet” as she is teenager now, who prefers black over pink :). I couldn’t help myself and added few flowers, but they are a bit smaller than in the previous card. I made my shakers using a frame die with a cute scallop border. After die cutting the frame, I backed it with a piece of acetate and used foam strips to build volume. All I needed to do is to add some sequins inside and job was done!
Do you make your own Valentine’s Day cards? Or you do not like giving them? I know we need to show our love and appreciation each day, but it never hurts to highlight it even more on the Love Day!
Thank you so much for stopping by and see you in two weeks! Sending you all tons of love!
Hey y’all! Laura Alberts back again with a little bit of wedding inspiration using one of the older Cocoa Vanilla Studio collections in my stash, Midnight! I absolutely love the elegant designs and mix of dark navy with pink and purple in this collection, making it perfect for my wedding photos.
Using a large 6×8 photo on this layout filled most of the page, so I kept my embellishing simple with a long border of florals and chipboard hearts down the right side. Behind the florals, I added a few clear stickers to give a tiny bit of detailing to the layers. I tucked a black and white floral underneath the photo and added a layer of vellum to mat my photo.
On the bottom left, I created a journaling spot with a 3D effect by layering frames, a cut-apart piece and a tag. I love how this blends in beautifully with the floral paper in the background, but still adds a pop of interest to the left side of the page.
For the title, I used a die cut ephemera piece, layered it on top of a chipboard banner, then tucked a mixed media style clear sticker underneath. All of these layers give my title depth and dimension. My favorite part is always the Nuvo trails behind the butterflies!

I hope this layout gives you a little inspiration to use for your next formal event!
Hello friends! Kylie back with you to share a fun project with you all. Today is all about a throwback collection so as soon as I found out my assignment you can be sure I immediately thought of the MIDNIGHT range. I love every single collection of Cocoa Vanilla, but the ‘Midnight’ collection is just that little bit ‘extra’ for me. I love the subtle ‘Boho’ vibe, the delicate florals and pretty colour palette. When I dug through my stash I was super excited to find one last DIE CUT AND BACKING paper. I obviously had put one aside for safe keeping, but this assignment made me think it was time to finally create with it.
These background papers are quite unique and if you haven’t seen or created with one before I highly recommend them. They are great for creating beautiful pages fast! They kind of look as though you have used a cut file design and backed it but really all of that work has been done for you. You are also not limited to using the page as is, you can remove the die cut element and back it with whatever paper you wish or leave it plain. So the creative possibilities are endless.
For my layout today I decided to use the background as it was without breaking it up in any way. Since I didn’t want to cover the background too much, I decided to print my photos a little smaller. I resized them to 2.5″x 4″ using my Silhouette software, and used my home printer for printing. I cut down some of the ALL THE THINGS paper to two- 2.75″x 4.25″ photo mats so that my pictures would have a nice framed border. The photos were layered over each other and adhered to the lower right side portion of the circle template. I was extra super excited to see that I still had some of the adorable mason jar embellishments……I mean seriously…..How cute! Can’t ever get enough of these! I layered lots of florals as well as the mason jars at the base of my photos. To create dimension and texture I curled some of the flower edges upwards and used foam adhesive squares to adhere them in place.
For balance on my page I added a secondary cluster of embellishments on the opposite angle to my photos and following the curve of the circle. By using both the chipboard embellishments and the cardstock embellishments together gave a nice texture to my page. I finished my page design with with a few simple stickers such as the Butterfly and the sub phrase quotes. This was a very quick layout to bring together and I love the finished result.
Thanks for joining me today to check out my scrapbooking walk down memory lane with the throwback collection- MIDNIGHT.
Hello Cocoa Vanilla fans! It’s Kylie with you today with a brand new layout to share. The theme on the blog today was ‘Creative Journaling’ so I am going to share a fun way I have incorporated a journal card to a layout. For my 12 x 12 page I have used one of my very favourite past collections, ‘MIDNIGHT’.
Some torn strips of paper were added to my background page with double sided tape to give some nice texture.I’m documenting some cutesy first birthday photos and thought it would be fun to have an envelope on my page. This was created using my We R Memory Keepers, All In One tool and I used measurements to fit a 6 x 4 card. However if you don’t have this tool you could easily make your own envelope by carefully opening out a paper envelope, tracing it before cutting it out. So using it as a template. Once I had made my envelope I then made a lining for it in co-ordinating paper and adhered it to my background page.
From the ‘MIXED BLESSING’ paper I trimmed a 3 x 4 card and I like to use my typewriter to add my journaling. It just seems to have an aesthetic I love plus I really don’t like my handwriting! Once completed I then added it over a piece of ‘INKY DEPTHS’ paper so it had a nice contrasting border. I used this same paper to mat both of my 3 x 4 photos too. My journal card was added to the envelope with repositionable tape, that way it can be removed to read and put back in place easily.
To finish my page, all that was left to do was to add some flowers…….LOTS of flowers, as well as a large title from the die cut pack.
I hope you have enjoyed seeing how I have included some creative journaling in my layout today and that it gives you a little inspiration for your own creating! Until next time,
Hi everyone, it’s Sue Plumb here to share my latest design team project with you. For today’s post I was tasked to create something inspired by the mood board for our current monthly challenge, which was designed for us by Michelle Stokes.
Here’s a look at the board…
The first thing that inspired me from the board was definitely the colours and the combination of different shades of pink, so I decided to create a layout of my daughter and go “full pink”. I had a sweet photo of her that I took in our garden last year, where she was looking very dreamy, so I printed it out in black and white to keep it neutral.
My secondary inspiration from the board was the image of the heart with all the tassels hanging from it. This immediately made me think of the Tassels and Bows pack from the ‘Unforgettable’ collection, and along with my dreamy looking daughter, led me to the idea to create a dreamcatcher style layout to showcase the tassels.
For my layout, I decided to start with a sheet of white wood grain patterned paper from the ‘Midnight’ collection. This gave me a nice, neutral background with a bit of a boho vibe. I added some colour to the top portion of my page with two different shades of pink ink using the packaging technique to achieve a soft, unstructured look.
Over the top of the ink I added the main part of my dreamcatcher. This was created using the die cut from the Large Die Cut and Backing kit from the ‘Midnight’ collection. I cut off the top third of the circle, then used a piercing tool to poke holes around the edge, which I threaded with some red and pink bakers twine.
Next, I cut some paper layers to mat my photo with. I used a hot pink paper from the ‘Unforgettable’ 6×8″ paper stack and a pink and white striped paper from the ‘Midnight’ 6×8″ paper pad. I also added a white paper lace doily and some frayed gauze to my stack before adding my photo on top.
With my photo in place it was time to pretty things up! I used lots of floral pieces from the ‘Unforgettable’ Die Cut Ephemera pack to frame around my photo. I also added some small die cut flowers around the edge of my dreamcatcher where each hole with the twine was.
Beneath the dreamcatcher, I added three tassels from the ‘Unforgettable’ Tassels and Bows pack, as well as three feathers from the ‘Unforgettable’ Die Cut Ephemera pack. I tied each tassel with the same twine I had threaded the dreamcatcher with. I tucked each of the pieces of twine under the title and then added a bow over the top.
I then added a few extra bits and pieces to my page – a flair button, the chipboard title beautiful, and some small phrase stickers – all from the ‘Midnight’ collection. From the ‘Unforgettable’ ephemera pack, I added some hearts and arrows (both inspired by the images in the board) and three die cut butterflies (because…butterflies!)
I was really happy with how this page turned out and I think it looks super pretty. I hope I have inspired you to play along with this month’s challenge too. You can find all the details and enter via the Cocoa Vanilla Studio Community group HERE.

Hello everyone! It’s Kylie back with you today for another ‘Throwback Thursday’ feature on the blog. I love to go back through my paper stash and choose a past collection to create with and for todays layout I selected the forever beautiful ‘MIDNIGHT’ collection. I’ve always loved the navy and pink colour combinations to this range and swoon over the mason jar and floral die cuts. So much beauty!
I opted for a darker toned background with the BLOOM & GROW paper and have layered pieces of SOPHISTICATED and ALL THE THINGS papers to the top third of my page. The edges have all been distressed a little to feature a nice amount of texture.
The best part about rummaging around through your craft supplies, like I was when I found my ‘MIDNIGHT’ stash, is all the other cool stuff you find that you may of forgotten about….(who me??) Let’s chat about paper doilies. I love them. I love the interest they can add to a project and there are so many ways you can incorporate them into a project. I found some smaller sized doilies and have wrapped each side of my photo to show a small lacey edge overlapping. It provided a fab backdrop for the floral die cuts I layered over the top.
For balance, I also added another doily with more die cuts to the lower left corner of my page.
To complete my page I added a lovely oversized title from the chipboard die cut pack to below my photo. It really seemed to tie in the theme of my photo and page design nicely! I used some foam adhesive squares to raise the title a little and make it seem as though it was ‘floating’ above my page.
Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today. I hope you have enjoyed taking a walk down memory lane and seeing the MIDNIGHT collection in use once more. Maybe my design has inspired you just a little to use some more of your past collections too! Until next time,
Hi there! Danni here with today’s Throwback Thursday inspiration featuring the gorgeous Midnight collection. I adored this collection so much that I have been hoarding a lot of it, so it felt great to put it to good use.
The Sunset Strip 12×12 patterned paper has always reminded me of a sunset, so it was perfect for a background of this landscape sunset photo I took in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. I had cut the floral circle cutfile for another layout, and the negative interior pieces looked so pretty on the cutting mat that I could not bear to bin them, so I carefully glued them to the background paper. It looked so lovely with the patterned paper peeking through!
Next, I used some inks and mists to add some purple, pink and gold splatters to the background. This helps tone down the stark white of the cutfile and adds some interest to the background. I used the Shine Bright 12×12 pink gradient patterned paper to back my photo and built some horizontal layers behind it with plain vellum and the woodgrain side of Shine Bright 12×12 paper to give my photo a natural ‘resting place’.
I made sure to line up the horizon in my photo with the colour change gradient in the background paper – this makes the page look cohesive and really enhances that sunset illusion. The Beautiful Moments title from the chipboard pieces fit perfectly around my photo and was the perfect sentiment for this layout. I used a tab from the die cut ephemera and some tiny words from the accessory stickers to supplement my main title.
Even though I want to hoard them forever, I placed some of the gorgeous die cut ephemera floral peonies and leaves in clusters either side of my photo, then added a pretty butterfly from the accessory stickers on the centre of one of the cutfile flowers, making sure to pop the wings up on dimensional foam – one of my absolute favourite techniques.
Finally, I added a few enamel dots from my stash in matching colours to finish off the layout. This whole layout was very quick to come together, even though it looks very full with plenty of detail – making an interesting background meant I could keep my embellishments minimal while still having a very impactful layout.
I hope you enjoyed joining me today! Please check out the video below on the Cocoa Vanilla Studio YouTube channel if you would like to see the entire process. Happy scrapping!
Hi Friends its Michelle here today with a new layout share for our ongoing ‘Throwback Thursday’ Theme. I dove back into my stash of Midnight collection and added a couple of cute photos of Leila from a family outing a little while ago.
I love the colour palette of this collection and its soft floral patterns, especially that tiny floral pattern paper I’ve used to the left of the layout. I based my layout on one that I’ve made in the past, and one that I’ve been wanting to recreate again.
I started with 4 different pattern papers – INKY DEPTHS, SHINE BRIGHT and INSPIRED and cut triangles from each piece to create the background for the layout. I’ve machine stitched around each triangle after adhering each piece to the cardstock backing.
To the right of the photos I created a cluster of mixed embellishments, bringing together ephemera and stickers layered with different adhesives for pops of dimension.
There’s a couple of similar elements tucked into the left of the photos also.
Under the photos I added a title using words from the Die Cut Titles pack with a sprinkling of glitter enamel dots from the Wild at Heart collection to the right.
Lastly I created a mini cluster at the top left of the layout which helps to bring all the embellishments elements together and balance the visual triangle I created on top of the triangular pattern paper background.
Well friends that’s all from me today. Thank you so much for stopping by. I hope you’ve enjoyed this instalment of Throwback Thursday – our fortnightly walk down memory lane.
Hi there crafty friends, Anita here sharing a layout for this months scraplift challenge where we pick a layout from the international cocoa vanilla studio scrapbook day challenges for my layout I chose Debra Beers layout from challenge 6 …
And my layout…
I started off with white cardstock and adding 4 strips from inspired and sophisticated down the right side I layered then just over lapping so I could machine stitch each strip. Then I matted my photo on papers from the 6×8 paper pad and tucked a doily into the layers.
Â
Using the flowers from the ephemera, accessory stickers I layered them in 2 of the corners
And added my chipboard title that I painted pink and flicked white paint over it. I add it to the bottom of my photo.
Â
Then using the clear stickers I added hearts ,leaves and flowers tucked and around the main floral pieces and finished it off with a few pearl drops.
