Hello Cocoa Vanilla family, and I must say that I am super excited to share my first layout with you all! It’s literally a dream come true being on this team with so many talented people and being able to create with these lovely products is a gift. But you didn’t come here to read me gush about the awesome products Cocoa Vanilla puts out – if you’re here, you probably already know how amazing it is.
For my first project, I used the Midnight collection. I knew from the second I saw this collection that it would be perfect for making headway into my wedding album – the mix of soft and warm pastels with deep, dark navy has me all over it so I decided to scrap some photos from my first dance with my husband.
I’m a sucker for ripped paper layers so that’s where I decided to start with this layout. I chose the Shine Bright, Moonlight, and Inky Depths patterned papers, ripped off strips of each and created a border for my layout. I then matted my photos using papers from the 6×8 paper pad – I love that it has the same patterns we love from the larger paper pads but on a smaller scale. Then it was time for my favorite part of scrapbooking – embellishing!
My technique for embellishing is kind of a stick as you go method. I lay out all the pieces in an ephemera pack and then grab and stick pieces down, layering as I go. The beauty of working with a collection is everything matches so half of the work is done for you! I mixed floral elements, some mason jars and a large piece with text on it to create a horizontal band going across the middle of my page, mimicking the horizontal lines my paper layers across the top and bottom of my page created.
Next, I went to work on my title. I used to die-cut phrases pack to title my layout. This was actually one of the first things I decided on after my paper layers – I love having ready made titles because I’m not very clever and all my layouts would have the same title otherwise! The dark scripty font was a perfect complement to the light and airy feel of the floral pieces, and I think it grounded the layout perfectly.
Finally, I pulled out the clear stickers and used it to add a few accent pieces. The tiny hearts, flowers and hatch marks were the perfect elements to tie the layout together and add a few places of interest in the page. Overall, I love the effect the small stickers give and I had to stop myself from using the whole pack on this one page!
And there you have it! I hope you enjoyed this layout and this peek into my process. I hope this inspired you to create something lovely today and to tell your own story. Till next time, keep it crafty friends.
