Hello Love | Wild At Heart | Missy Whidden

Hello there!  Missy here, and I have a new layout to share using the beautiful Wild At Heart collection.  I just love the deep, rich colors in this line.  I decided to create an artsy page by using lots of watercolors on my background to enhance the colors in the papers.  I began with the Artisan paper, which is a pretty white and grey wood grain.  It’s a great neutral paper, so it’s perfect for a background.  I chose a black & white photo to really let all the colors shine.  I used a pinwheel type cut file from The Cut Shoppe and cut them in lots of different patterned papers.  I used matching watercolors and sprays to add to the background using plastic packaging, a paint brush and also just spraying directly onto the paper.  I covered a lot of the background with white gesso first to allow the colors to blend easily and to give the paper a textured barrier so the liquids didn’t just soak right through it.

I just randomly placed all the pinwheels onto the paper once it was dry and then decided where I wanted my photo.   I sorted through the cute Wood Veneer package and used three hearts to create a visual triangle around the page.  I also used one of the adorable Rubber Charms and added some tangled thread for added color and texture.

The Chipboard Stickers in this collection are just gorgeous.  I used the big “LOVE” letters and paired them up with one of the Flair Buttons to create my title.  I used a few die cuts from the Ephemera Pack as well.  I love the dimension from the the chipboard.

I did add some machine stitching with grey thread through several of the pinwheels.  I love how the edges roll up and give a nice 3D look.  Bringing your papers and embellishments up off the page just gives it that little something extra 🙂

Here’s the area above the photo.  I added some paper layers behind it as well as some foam adhesive.  I love the shadowing effect that creates.  I added another die cut here above the photo.

Here’s one last close-up below the photo.  Another die cut and a chipboard piece, and my journaling area down below to finish it off.

I hope this inspires you in some way!  This collection really is beautiful, and we love seeing what you guys are creating with it.  I have a process video if you’d like to check it out.

Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a great day!

About the Author:

Missy hails from Central Florida in the United States, where she has lived her entire life. She has been married to husband Marshall for over 16 years, although they have been together for 22. They have two sweet little girls, Reese (10) and Paige (7). Both girls are autistic and nonverbal so life is never boring. Missy says "they have taught us so much and they are very happy children. They are the light of our lives and they make us laugh constantly". When Missy is not scrapping, she's a fitness instructor. She teaches six classes a week. Before having children, she taught high school English. She says she has always been interested in art and playing with paper and stickers, and began scrapbooking just before Reese was born in 2006. She was hooked instantly! Missy's style has changed quite a bit. Back when she started she used paper, stickers, and deco scissors. Over the years she discovered die cutting tools and mixed media products. Currently she loves to use watercolours, her Cameo, and her sewing machine on most of her projects; and she usually scraps photos of her children or family. She describes scrapbooking as her calming therapy that helps her to relax. "I try and do something scrappy related every day, and I just love it dearly." When she isn't creating, Missy also loves reading and catching up on her favourite TV shows.
