Hello Cocoa Vanilla family, and welcome back to the blog. Today, I am playing with the Midnight collection and I have a bit of a fun layout to share with you today. I remember saying when the More Than Words collection came out that this collection was going to be the one I used to document our wedding and then Midnight came out, and I’m so fortunate I don’t have to choose! My layout today is featuring one of my favorite photos from the night – there was a giant blizzard the night before our wedding and I was able to convince our photographer to go outside for a bit and take photos in the snow during our reception. This one is easily my favorite of the bunch.
For the layout itself, I decided to play with one of the scrappy trends my friend Tracey did a video on. She has a series on IGTV where she shares examples of current scrapbooking trends and I couldn’t help but try my hand at the hourglass figure trend. Of course, I can’t follow the script perfectly so I decided to put my own spin on it. I started with the Inspired paper as my background and for my triangles, I used the Sunset Strip patterned paper. I used seven photo mats for this layout, but they al came from the cut apart sheet that had a variety of 3×4 and 4×6 pattern swatches. Finally, before assembling the whole thing, I fussy cut the large mason jar and the geometric floral element from the other cut apart sheet. The next step was finding a way to put this whole thing together.
After sticking down my triangles so that the whole layout was a bit off center, I worked on assembling my layout. First, I placed my photo so that it rested right where the two triangles meet, slightly skewed to the right. Next, I placed my larger elements to the left and the right of the photo and I added a larger chipboard piece form the chipboard element pack on either side. Once my larger pieces were down, I worked on filling in the gaps around the photo. The beauty of being fortunate to be on the CVS design team is I don’t have to frugal with embellishments and so I told my natural tendency to hoard to have a seat and I pulled out the ephemera pack, as well as the Accessory sticker sheet and the clear stickers and went to town with florals, hearts and butterflies. The effect is still slightly skewed to the right but it isn’t as dramatic now that all the embellishments are down.
Finally, I used the chipboard element pack for my title. I know Happy Moments isn’t the most original title but it fit the story I was telling and I love that the chipboard takes all the work out of guessing a title. The title packs are quickly becoming my favorite embellishment and I love how a layout comes together once you slap a title on it.
That’s all I have for you today! I hope you enjoyed this layout as much as I enjoyed making it and you give this trend a try. Till next time, keep it crafty friends and have a great day.
