XO | Love Always | Tarrah McLean

Hi everyone!

It’s Tarrah McLean here and I am SOOOOO excited to be back sharing my first layout as part of the Cocoa Vanilla team for the 2nd time! I really missed being on the Cocoa Vanilla team last year so you could imagine my delight and excitement when Zoe asked if I would like to join the team again! I AM SO EXCITED TO BE BACK!!!

We are celebrating LOVE right here on the Cocoa Vanilla Studio blog all this week and since I have oodles of product still left from when I was a designer previously, I decided to use up some of the beautiful Love Always collection for my Love themed layout today!

I started out by choosing a cut file with lots of hearts and cut it from the B side of the Lovely Things paper….I also used the sketch pen to draw the outline heart so that I was able to poke holes in to add some hand stitching.  I then chose lots of the different papers and backed all the hearts with different papers from the Love Always collection.

Once all the hearts were filled in, I matted my photo slightly with the black spotted vellum piece from the Vellum Accents pack, I then adhered my photo to the right hand side of the heart, the ‘XO’ chipboard piece became my title plus I added the cute chippie stickers ‘You + Me’ from the chipboard sticker sheet! A few other embellishments like accessory stickers, enamel dots and a flair button all help to decorate my layout but not over do it. I wanted the photo to be the main focus plus I didn’t want to cover up many of the hearts either!

Thank you so much for stopping by today!

Till next time……happy creating!

You Make Me So Happy | Mix & Match | Missy Whidden

Hello again, friends!  Missy here, and I have a monochromatic layout to share today.  I was in the mood to use a lot of blue on this page, so I sorted through all the Cocoa Vanilla collections I own and pulled out all the blue papers.  I was surprised to see how many shades of blue there were!  I used this beautiful butterfly cut file and cut it on white cardstock.  I backed each one with a blue paper, and I just love mix of lights and darks.  I used the beautiful wood grain paper from Bohemian Dream as my background.  I coated a lot of it white gesso first and then used a few different shades of blue inks sprays over that.  I wanted more blue to peek out from around the cut file and in between all the butterflies.

I added some foam adhesive under all the butterflies to raise them up off the page.  I love the dimension this creates, and it really just makes the layout come to life.  I tucked my photo in to the left of the cut file and overlapped them.

I went small with the title and used this fun banner sticker from the Hello Lovely Accessory Stickers.  I didn’t want to add a large title because there really wasn’t anywhere to put it.  I didn’t want to cover up the butterflies or make them look busier.

I added this sticker from Wild At Heart here, and I love the pop of dark blue it gives.

I used a few things under my photo for layering.  I pulled a dark blue chipboard frame from Wild At Heart and also a fun die cut frame from Life is Beautiful.  I also added a few Life is Beautiful heart stickers and a gorgeous blue leaf stem from Bohemian Dream.  I love how the water in this photo looks like the background paper.  They both have lines, and I thought it matched very well.

Here’s one last close-up of the layering and dimension.  I really love how it turned out!

I hope this inspires you to go through all your papers and choose one main color to work with.  It helps you narrow down what you can use and helps to bring your page together faster.  Plus it’s fun to work with all those different shades of just one color!  Be sure to check out my process video here if you’d like to see how I made this.

Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a fabulous day!

Hi Creative Friends,

Happy New Year to you all, I hope your Christmas break was full of fun!  Gwen with you on the blog today to share my latest project and its something a little different!

The Bouquet paper from the Love Always collection is one of my very favourites and the design for this page was inspired by it.  I wanted to play on the design of the paper and I knew I wanted to use it in the background.  I had a full sheet for my background, and then when I found a scrap, I had the idea to fussy cut it following along with the chevron design and then mount it on foam tape on top of the background page.  This then set the base for my photo mat and embellishments.  To make it stand out from the background, I added some pretty watercolour from my stash just around the edge.

Next, I wanted to lock in the position of my photo mat, I began with my paper layers using the Twin Set, Frolic and Class Act papers layered up on the right-hand side. To balance out the design, I added my tile to the left-hand side.  It is made up of some alphas from my stash, the Chipboard Accent Stickers and the word “sweet” is from the Wood Veneer pack.

I’ve also used Die Cut Ephemera pieces, Accessory Stickers, Puffy Stickers, Vellum Accents and Bitty Blooms to build 2 main embellishment clusters.  This collection as so many embellishment options, it’s hard not to choose all the things!  Below you can see a cute Puffy Sticker and a Chipboard piece.

I’ve also added a flair button and some sparkly enamel dots to finish and the page was done.  Below you can see another one of those cute Puffy Stickers, the stunning vellum and a bitty bloom.

Thanks for popping by today, I hope 2018 brings you a wonderful adventure.. and that you take the time to document it!

Until next time,

My Favorite Layouts | Missy Whidden

Hey, friends!  It’s Christmas Eve…woo hoo!  Missy here today sharing some of my favorite layouts from 2017 using all kinds of gorgeous Cocoa Vanilla products.  I love them all so much!  This one I created during the Summer using the Make a Wish collection.  That floral paper was my all-time favorite, so I used it in my Cameo to cut a large title.  I did some hand-stitching and lots of watercolor on the background.  I also fussy cut some flowers to go around the photo.  Pretty much all of my favorite things on one page 🙂

This one I love so much because it’s another Summer page!  I used lots of the Hello Sunshine collection for this.  I used gesso and watercolors on the background, and I fussy cut the sun rays from patterned paper.  I love stitching through sun rays like this to add interest and texture.  I cut a really big title and watercolored it and then embellished with lots of flowers, die cuts, wood buttons and puffy stickers.  I hand cut “vibes” from patterned papers.

This one I love because it has my favorite shades of pink and coral mixed with black & white.  I love adding paint and watercolor to my backgrounds, and this one was fun because it was a patterned paper.  I covered a lot of it with white acrylic paint to fade out some of the circles and create a white space.  I used lots of watercolor here, and I fussy cut a lot of flowers from the Love Always & Wild at Heart collections.  My original inspiration was combining flowers from two different collections, and it turned out so nice!

This one I love because the You Rock collection is for boys, and I totally made a girl page with it!  I fussy cut all those stars and basically made a huge cluster.  I absolutely LOVE this background paper…it’s gorgeous.  I did add a bit of gesso to it along with some yellow/gold ink spray.  I also added some white splatters by watering down some white acrylic paint with a brush.  I heat embossed some wood veneer stars with gold powder to add in there as well.  I embellished with some stickers, chipboard, rubber charms, flair and machine stitching.

This is my favorite Bohemian Dream layout.  How can you not create something beautiful with this collection?  I used my Cameo to cut out all those hearts and then backed them all with various patterned papers from the collection.  I went around each heart with gelatos and smudged some color around them with my finger.  I very carefully machine stitched around all the hearts…it’s not perfect, but I love how it looks!  I embellished with lots of gorgeous floral die cuts and phrase stickers, and I added some pink gelato to the white chipboard title.

I hope you enjoyed these…I sure loved creating them!  Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, friends!

Are you ready for 2018? It’s almost here, and we have throwback weeks to share some of our favorite layouts of 2017. To be honest it was so hard to choose because most of the layouts I created using the beautiful Cocoa Vanilla Collections have my heart! I ended up by choosing four layouts, one from each collection I used this year. We started the year with the gorgeous Wild at Heart collection, and I documented a sweet summer photo of my little daughter. I adhered some patterned paper strips behind the photo and created a vertical embellishment cluster. Love how the paper strips reflect the colors of the photo.

I used the super cool and fun You Rock collection for my second layout. As a mother of three boys, it’s the perfect collection to document our everyday life.

I combined the soft and gorgeous Love Always collection with You Rock patterned paper for creating my next layout.  I love the clean and simple design with the Cocoa Vanilla die cut flowers.

Let’s check my last layout! It’s so easy to create colorful and bright layouts with the new Bohemian Dream collection! I used the cut-apart sheet for creating this layout, I just had to add some ephemera pieces and stickers! Just love how this layout turned out!

I hope you like my Top Four Layouts! Happy Holiday! Bea

Hi Creative Friends,

Back on the blog today with something a little different.  This week for the Cocoa Vanilla Studios design team we have been asked to choose our favourite layouts for 2017.  I know right, how does one choose?  I so love all of the pages I created this year, so in my attempt to narrow it down I’ve chosen two layouts that best document significant parts of my year.  Often, I like to scrap everyday moments, but these 2 layouts were created to document two very special things.

First up, is “This HAPPY Life” created using the new Bohemian Dream collection.  This page was created to document Caitlin’s 10th Birthday.  It is a little different for me in that I used so many photos, but that is what I love about it!  I love that I can see at a glance how much she has grown up.  I also adore the colours in this collection, so bright and happy, the perfect fit for this page.

My second choice is “XOX” created using the Love Always collection (one of my all-time favourite collections).  I love the softness of this page and how it documents a huge part of my 2017, my starting back at Ballet. In January, I set a goal of getting back en pointe, and I’m really happy to say, I’ve managed it!  Yes, there is a lot of work to do before there will be pirouettes, but I am on my way!

Thanks for popping by today, and for all your support this year.

As this is my last blog post for the year, I’d like to wish you all a Merry Christmas, I hope you have a wonderful festive season and I’ll be back in 2018 with loads more inspiration for you all.

Until next time,

Hi everyone!

2017 is fast coming to an end, and as a way of rounding off the year, we thought that it might be fun if each of our design team members shared some of our favourite projects that we’ve created this year using the beautiful Cocoa Vanilla products! I’m kicking it off today, and I have three layouts to share with you that feature a variety of different CVS collections!

I love how this first layout came together! I combined quite a few different collections, including ‘Colour Me Happy‘, ‘Wild at Heart‘, ‘Love Always‘, ‘Make a Wish‘, ‘Endless Summer‘, and ‘Hello Lovely‘. The soft pastel colours teamed up with pops of black and white, and grey, made for a a really pretty colour palette that was perfect for documenting these photos of my youngest daughter enjoying her first Easter egg. If you’d like to read more about this layout, you can find all the details in my original blog post here…

This is another one of my favourite layouts that I’ve created this year! It features the lovely ‘Endless Summer‘ collection, as well as a CVS cut file, and the cutest photo of my daughter and my nephew enjoying an ice cream together! The florals in the  ‘Endless Summer’ collection are so beautiful, and they’re perfect for fussy cutting! You can view my original blog post here for all the details about this layout…

And I also have a process video for this layout that you can check out on my YouTube channel…

Here is the third and final layout that I want to share with you today, featuring the beautiful ‘Love Always‘ collection. My aim for this layout was to keep it light and airy, and very simple. I love the end result, and I think it was the perfect way to document this photo of my sweet little niece! You’ll find closeups and more details about this layout in the full blog post…

And I have a process video for this layout as well…

I hope that you’ve enjoyed taking another look at some of my favourite layouts from this year! I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for the encouragement and support that you’ve shown me over the past year with all of  your likes and comments on social media, and by taking the time to read my blog posts. I appreciate all of you so much, and I look forward to sharing more projects with you in 2018. Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!
