About Sue Plumb

Sue is a stay at home mum of 3 (daughter Brielle, and twin sons Hunter and Kaden) and lives in the beautiful Glasshouse Mountains in Queensland. She began scrapping in 2008, shortly after her daughter was born. After the premature birth of her sons in 2012, she took 18 months off scrapping to concentrate on family and says she is now enjoying it more than ever. (Her biggest issue now is finding quiet time!) She currently designs for challenge blogs, and has had work published in magazines on numerous occasions, including the cover. She was also a 2017 Scrapbooking Memories magazine Creative Team member. Although primarily a 12×12 scrapper, she says she loves to dabble a bit with pocket style scrapping, art journaling, and the odd canvas and card too. She best describes her style as "versatile" - ranging from clean and linear one day, to messy mixed media the next.

Sweet Heart | More Than Words | Sue Plumb

By | 2018-03-20T18:17:12+00:00 March 21st, 2018|Design Team, Inspiration, More Than Words|

Hi everyone! Sue Plumb here to share another creation with you. As you know, this week on the blog we are focusing on paper. (Because let’s face it, we all love paper, right?!) Today I am sharing a layout that features the gorgeous new ‘More Than Words’ collection and my equally gorgeous girl.

I started this page with the ‘Noteworthy’ patterned paper (because we are celebrating paper after all!) I couldn’t leave my paper clean though, so added some layers of mixed media to it. I used a grey spray (applied using the packaging technique); then some pink texture paste through a stencil; then some orange ink finely splattered around.

Once the mediums were dry, I added a paper doily from my stash where the focal point of my layout was going to be. I then added some scrap cardboard to the back of my photos before sticking them down on top of the doily.

To embellish my layout, I once again turned to paper. I used the stunning ‘Precious’ paper with its floral pattern to fussy cut some pieces to frame around my photo. I tucked the edges under my photos, then lifted the edges of the floral pieces to add some dimension to my page.

I also fussy cut a grey spotted label and the Sweet Heart label from the ‘Treasure’ paper and layered the two together (with foam tape between them) to form my title.

The love you to bits heart was also fussy cut from the ‘Treasure’ paper, and I added it below my photos (once again, using foam tape to add dimension).

To finish off, I used stamps from the clear stamp set to add some various sized hearts and the phrase the best around my page. I used a pink shimmery watercolour paint to add a touch of colour to the hearts.

Thanks for stopping by today so I could share this with you. Make sure you pop back tomorrow to see what else the team has created. Until next time, happy scrapping!

Live a Colourful Life | Bohemian Dream | Sue Plumb

By | 2018-03-05T16:10:17+00:00 March 7th, 2018|Bohemian Dream, Design Team, Inspiration|

Hi everyone!

Sue Plumb here to share my latest design team project with you. Today I have a 12×12″ mixed media layout using the gorgeous ‘Bohemian Dream’ collection. I am still so in love with this collection with all it’s stunning colours and beautiful florals! I pulled a photo of my babies from the archives to scrap this week. (I have never scrapped this one before because it was taken with a flash and isn’t that great; but I couldn’t resist documenting it as it was the first photo I took of my kids all together after my boys finally got out of hospital.)

I had lots of colours to work with in my photo; so I decided to start with the multicoloured spots of the Wild & Free patterned paper as my background. I applied some gesso to the centre section of my paper, which I simply spread with my finger. I then used inks and a small brush to add some layers of colour to my page, using a heat gun to dry them to create the “water line” look I was after.

After I had the mediums in place, it was time to work on adding some papery goodness to the focal area of my page. I used a pieces cut from the Gypsy Heart; Kaleidoscopeand Abstract papers to mat my photo with, which helped add some definition and separate my photo from the background. I also used some scrap cardboard behind it to pop my photo up a little.

To go with the organic look of the ink on the background, I also fussy cut a few beautiful floral pieces from the Abundant paper which I tucked into my layers around my photo. I also added a few stickers from the accessory sticker sheet – a label, the heart tab, and the little love this banner. Above my photo I added the sticker that became my title – live a colourful life.

To complete my page I added a stunning butterfly that I fussy cut from the Boho Bits paper (I think this is one of my favourite CVS butterflies EVER!) Then I added a few phrases from the accessory sticker sheet and some hearts from the enamel shapes pack.

That’s all from me today, thanks for stopping by so I could share this with you. Until next time, happy scrapping!

February Guest Designer | Adele Toomey

By | 2018-02-24T17:03:52+00:00 February 24th, 2018|Inspiration, More Than Words|

Hi everyone!

I am so happy to welcome Adele Toomey, our special February guest designer, back to our blog today. (If you missed her first post earlier this month, make sure you check it out here.) Adele has been busy creating some more with our brand new ‘More Than Words’ collection, so without further ado, I will hand over to her to tell you about it…

Hi lovelies!
I have been creating like crazy with the More Than Words collection this week – it’s such a stunner of a collection! I love using the soft tones for baby photos, and including those delicate floral patterns in my paper layers.

Today I have created a 9×12″ layout for my 2017 albums. I love using this size and find the rectangular composition a lot easier to work with than square 12×12″.

This week, I challenge you to use the More Than Words collection to experiment with a different sized layout than your go to design!

Head over to my Inkie Quill YouTube channel to see the full process video.
Go and get your craft on today!
Adele 🙂
There you have it – another gorgeous layout from Adele. We are so happy that she could join us this month to share some of her beautiful work. If don’t already subscribe to her YouTube channel, make sure you do. No only is she very talented, but she is also lots of fun to watch as well!
Until next time, happy scrapping!

Awesome Memories | You Rock | Sue Plumb

By | 2018-02-21T12:44:18+00:00 February 21st, 2018|Design Team, Inspiration, You ROCK|

Hi everyone!

Sue Plumb here today to share a mixed media layout I created using the ‘You Rock’ collection. I make no secret of the fact I love creating boy pages, and I certainly love adding a bit of mixed media into my pages too. For this layout, I decided to document a couple of photos of my boys swimming in their Nana’s pool over the Christmas holidays.

I wanted to emphasise the water theme of my page, so I started with wood grain print of the Plus One paper; then applied white gesso and used inks over the top to create a water inspired background. I also smeared some coloured texture paste with a thin palette knife around my page to provide a textural element and a feeling of movement.

Once I had the background complete, it was time to start working on the paper elements of my page. I started cutting and layering assorted size pieces of patterned paper in the focal area where I knew my photos were going to be placed. I used pieces cut from both the Stripped and Galactic papers in my layers, which I also mixed with some frames from the die cut ephemera pack to give more depth.

Once all my layers were in place, I added my two photos on top, adding some scrap cardboard behind them to mount them up a little higher. I also added some more pieces from the die cut ephemera pack with foam tape behind them to provide more dimension.

The next embellishments I added were some wood veneer stars from the wood veneer pack; along with some stars that I fussy cut from the Starshine paper; and some yellow enamel shapes.

For my title, I used the “awesome” word from the wood veneer pack, which I coloured using some gesso (smeared on with my finger) and one of the same inks I had used on the background; then added the little “memories” banner from the die cut ephemera pack to complete it.

Thanks for stopping by today so I could share this with you. I will be back again in a couple of weeks with another project to share. Until then, happy scrapping!

February Guest Designer | Adele Toomey

Hi everyone!

I am so excited to be able to finally introduce our February guest designer to you all – please welcome Adele Toomey (AKA Inkie Quill), who has been busy creating with our brand new ‘More Than Words’ collection.

I am sure many of you are already familiar with Adele and her work; but for those who aren’t, she is a bright, bubbly Australian who hails from the NSW coast where she lives with her hubby Aaron, her adorable son Archie, and their two bunnies. She has been addicted to stationery and paper goods since she was a child, which has evolved to where she is now – a versatile crafter who dabbles in all manner of creative projects including scrapbook pages in various sizes.

You can learn more about Adele and her work on her website here: http://www.inkiequill.com/

Hi lovelies!
I am so excited to be guest designing for February using the beautiful pieces from the More Than Words collection. When I first opened my box of goodies, I knew I would have no trouble at all using all those gorgeous florals and soft patterns in my layouts.
I branched out of my comfort zone today and not only decided to go back to my scrappy roots and create a 12×12 layout; but also make my first layout using patterned paper as a background!! Usually I work on white cardstock, but the papers were so beautiful I couldn’t resist trying something different…and I must say, I love how it turned out!! I plan to frame and display this layout in my living room – I realised we only have one photo on display in our whole house – time to change that!
This lovely ledger paper makes the perfect background piece. I decided to contrast the soft hues of the embellishments with some black paint, in order to make the small details really pop!
I used the darling little cluster of hearts stamp and white embossing powder to add a special something to my background, before finishing it off with a handwritten quote also in white. A splash of cute embellies and my layout was complete! I love the way the soft petals of the florals contrast with the heavy paint lines.
I can’t wait to get busy and continue using the More Than Words collection – stay tuned for more projects!
Thanks so much Adele, we can’t wait to see what else you have in store for us later in the month!

You | More Than Words | Sue Plumb

By | 2018-02-07T18:41:51+00:00 February 7th, 2018|Design Team, Inspiration, More Than Words|

Hi everyone!

Sue Plumb here today to share my latest design team project with you. We are currently celebrating a “love” theme on the blog, and I couldn’t go past using the new ‘More Than Words’ collection for my layout – it’s perfect for creating pages about the ones you love most. I decided to create a page for my hubby, as I don’t create enough pages that are dedicated to him.

For this page, I decided to focus on a simple white / black / blue colour palette to compliment my black and white photo. I used the spotted pattern on the B-side of the Radiant paper as my background and added some shimmery blue watercolour paint to help define the focal area. I also added some stamping around my page, using the cluster of small hearts from the clear stamp set.

I then added some lovely papery layers to create a mat for my photo. I used the black and white floral print from the 6×6″ paper pad immediately under my photo, as the predominantly black paper helped my photo to stand out. Under that was a piece cut from the Collage paper featuring a grey and white leaf print design. To build my layers I also tucked in a small piece of the Treasure paper; and a tab and tag (tied with some twine); both from the accessory sticker sheet.

Next, I took the gorgeous floral Sketchbook paper and fussy cut some of the floral motifs from it. (I was careful to avoid any colours other than grey or blue.) I then tucked these pieces in around my layers adding some small leafy branches from the vellum accents pack as well.

Alongside my photo I added some phrase stickers from the accessory sticker sheet in place of journalling; as well as the “so very thankful for you” sticker directly onto my photo. To balance them out, I added a butterfly from the vellum accent pack on the opposite side of my photo.

To finish my page I added the word “you” from the chipboard titles pack. I prefaced my title with a small spotty heart from the chipboard stickers sheet. In keeping with my “rule of threes”, I added two other chipboard hearts to my page – one at the top above my tag, and the other, a tiny one directly onto my photo.

Thanks for stopping by today so I could share this with you. The new ‘More Than Words’ collection is available in many stores already, so make sure you check with your favourite retailer to see if they have it available.

I will be back again in a couple of weeks. Until then, happy scrapping!

Thank you, goodbye, and hello…again

Hi everyone!

A couple of announcements to share today – both sad and happy.

First of all, as today marks the end of our 2017 term with our design team, we are saying goodbye to a couple of our lovely ladies. Bea Valint and Missy Whidden are leaving us to continue on with their creative journey, and we can’t thank this dynamic duo enough for all the stunning projects they have created for us over the past 12 months. Both of these ladies have been absolutely delightful members of our team, and they will always remain a part of our extended Cocoa Vanilla family.

We couldn’t go without a final look at their work, so here are some of our favourite pages from each of the ladies using our ‘Bohemian Dream’ and ‘You Rock’ collections.

Our second piece of news is that our former (and very much loved) design team member Tarrah McLean has re-joined the team and will once again be inspiring you with her amazing work this year.

Welcome back Tarrah!

We will also be having some guest designers join us this year, (our very first one is hard at work as we speak), so stay tuned to see who will be sharing their work with us in February.

That’s all from me today, thanks for stopping by!
