WONDERFUL MOMENT | MORE THAN WORDS | GWEN WRUCK

By | 2018-01-28T16:54:15+00:00 February 18th, 2018|Design Team, Inspiration, More Than Words, Wild at Heart|

Hi Creative Friends,

Gwen here on the blog today, I hope you are all well!  I thought for this layout, I’d try and combine something from an older collection with the new MORE THAN WORDS collection.  Zoe always does a fab job of not only giving us something fresh and new but also having it work with what we have and I love that!  I also have to add here that I was itching to use the divine RADIANT paper with those paintbrush strokes on it and in fact, it is the only pattern paper I use for this one!

The next thing I pulled from my stash was the Chipboard Frames from the Wild At Heart collection.  There were quite a few bold patterns in this collection, however, there were also some really lovely watercolour elements and softer tones too.  I pulled the ones I thought the best fit with the colours in the RADIANT paper and set them out on my page.

Now came the fun bit!  I had a heap of candid shots taken of Miss 11 at a family Christmas party last year and whilst there wasn’t really a shot that stood out to me to belong on a page by itself, the shots as a group told of the pure joy she was having at the time.  They were the perfect choice to fill up some of the frames I had pulled for my page.

It took a little bit of juggling to decide which photo should go where; the one photo where she was looking at the camera became my main photo and the others filled in the gaps. With a design element like this, once it is sorted the rest of the page comes together really quickly.

Next was my title, for this I used the Chipboard Sticker pack which included both words “Wonderful” and “moments” – for my title, I simply left off the last ‘S’ to make it “Wonderful Moment”.

I have then added a few other Chipboard pieces including the sentiment “You Make My Heart Sing” and a bunch of chipboard hearts.  I also pulled some flowers and butterflies from the Die Cut Epherma pack.  I love how on one photo it looks like she is looking at the butterfly!

This finished out the page, a nice and quick layout for me which I love!  I am loving seeing everyone’s creations using the new collection, be sure to keep sharing them with us on the Facebook page!

Until next time,

Gwen

VINTAGE LOVE | MORE THAN WORDS | GWEN WRUCK

By | 2018-01-28T16:25:08+00:00 February 4th, 2018|Design Team, Inspiration, More Than Words|

Hi Creative Friends,

Gwen with you here today.  It’s LOVE month on the blog for Cocoa Vanilla Studios and the whole team are sharing their “love” inspired projects.  I thought I’d do something a little different for the theme and talk about my love of all things Vintage and why not use the latest collection MORE THAN WORDS as I love that too!

On a recent trip to a local Antique centre with my sister, I took a few photos of the pretty things.  They inspire me so much and my studio is filled with bits and pieces from teacups to swan figures to vintage draws to plates and bowls.  I even have a beautiful vintage bathroom tile which features in my main photo here.

The idea for the page came from the divine NOTEWORTHY paper, one of my first favourites from the collection.  I began by trimming off the top portion and small part of the bottom so that I was left with just the lines.  I did this as I wanted the widest column to be on the right side of my layout (so yes, it is upside down), not that you can tell now that all of the words have been cut off.  I mounted this piece on a plain white cardstock sheet and hand stitched along the top and bottom edge with pink thread.  I really love the grid design of this paper and its vintage feel.  I can see it being used on school themed layouts too!!

I then decided to run with a verticle design by layering up 3 die cut hearts I had cut from a file from the Silhouette store.  I cut them out of white cardstock first and then again (just the centres) in the RADIANT paper.  I really like how you can see the background poking through them and that the centre pops because of that cute spotty paper.

Next, it was time to mount my photo.  I couldn’t go past the COLLAGE paper for this, so many pretty patterns on one sheet of cardstock!  I simply cut them out and layered them up.  I’ve also added a layer of GOSSAMER paper for my base I did feel it needed a little bit of black to separate it a little from my background, it also helped balance out the darker parts of my photo.

The bones of my design were now locked in place, next it was time to fit in my title. I’ve cut it using my Silhouette – the font is called “Shoreline Script Bold” using the DARLING BUDS paper.  It was at this point I knew I needed some dimension so I went to the Chipboard Stickers.  There are so many sweet designs in this pack, I’ve used the Banner, butterflies, “Hello Lovely” sentiment, a heart and the arrows all on this page.

I’ve also taken elements from the Die Cut Ephemera pack including the “love this” and “Happiness” sentiments.  The small typed stickers are from the Sticker Accessory sheet – and don’t we all love these!

Now that the smaller elements were in place, the page was finished and I do love how it turned out.  I think this is a pretty classic scrapbook design and one that I know I will go back to in the future.  Thanks for popping by the blog today, I hope I’ve inspired you to scrap something you love that you may not have thought to scrapbook – all of these things make us who we are and why not document that!

Until next time,

Gwen

WILD AT HEART | Scrapbooking Memories Masters 2017

By | 2018-01-28T12:36:57+00:00 January 30th, 2018|Chit Chat, Inspiration|

Hi Everyone,

Gwen back on the blog today to share with you Part Two of our special Scrapbooking Memories Masters feature using the ‘Wild at Heart’ collection.  Our next Master is the very talented Kylie Tout who has created this striking page with a beautiful reminder to “be yourself” and “dream big”.

We love how Kylie has used the watercolour inspired background on the B side of the ARTISAN paper. She’s made it her own by adding background stamps and texture for the perfect base to her layout.

She has also altered the Wood Veneer pieces with stunning gold glitter and paint.  You really can alter these to fit any project you may have in mind.

Next up we have Sue Hamilton who has been inspired by the stunning Blue in the MARIPOSA paper but also the Chipboard Frames in the collection.  She too has framed her page with the MEMENTO paper, a popular choice with the Masters.

She has created a cute row of flowers in her design pulling elements that have been fussy cut, veneer pieces and die cuts.  We also love how she has featured so many photos on her page using the Chipboard Frames.

She has finished her layout using bit and pieces from our Chipboard Sticker pack and a flair button, great for added dimension.

Also inspired by our Chipboard Frames is our last master, Kylie Symons who has created this fun project.  We love how she has combined the A and B sides of the MEMENTO paper and the LUSCIOUS paper to create paper strips for her background.  She has made the die cut pieces stand out by creating a dark line around the edge and what a beautiful message for this page as well “bloom where you are planted”.

And there you have it, 6 unique and wonderful pages created by the Scrapbooking Memories 2017 Masters featuring the Wild At Heart collection.

A huge thank you to all of my fellow Masters for sharing their creativity with us!  Amy Small, Trudi Harrison, Kylie Tout, Sue Hamilton and Kylie Symons.

I hope they have inspired you to pull out your stash and get creating with the bold and beautiful papers and embellishments in this collection!

Until next time,

Gwen

WILD AT HEART | Scrapbooking Memories Masters 2017

By | 2018-01-28T12:11:48+00:00 January 29th, 2018|Chit Chat, Inspiration|

Hi Everyone,

Gwen with you today with a special share for the blog. The Scrapbooking Memories Masters for 2017 have come together to share with us an inspiring collection of their projects featuring the beautiful WILD AT HEART collection.  I too was fortunate enough to be part of that group, so I thought I ‘d go first!

For my layout, I wanted to pull the warm tones from the collection including the pinks and add to them a pop of the darker purples.  I have used the MOMENTO paper to mount my photo and fussy cut butterflies from the MARIPOSA paper.

I’ve layered up punched strips of pattern papers GROW WILD and LUSCIOUS.  I also added in stickers from the Accessory Sticker Sheet and Wood Veneer pieces.

Next up we have Amy Small who has created this super fun Boys paper pulling out the Blues and Greens in the collection.  I love how she has used the frames too!  Her background features the ARTISAN and DOUBLE DOT paper and how cool are the clusters including die cut pieces, wood veneer and a flair button.

More Accessory Stickers and some Enamel Dots are the perfect finishing touch.

Next up we have Trudi Harrison who has created this stunner!  Such a celebration of the colours in the collection to match her joy-filled photo.

She has featured the MEMENTO paper as her border and the ARTISAN paper as her background.  Her main cluster features fussy cut flowers and a heap of the Die Cut Ephemera – she has mixed the larger and smaller designs in the pack to build up some stunning layers here and look at the SPARKLE from the Enamel Dots from the collection, oh so pretty!

Be sure to pop back to the blog tomorrow as I share our remaining Master’s layouts with you!

Until next time,

Gwen

EIGHT | MAKE A WISH | GWEN WRUCK

By | 2018-01-14T21:30:46+00:00 January 18th, 2018|Design Team, Inspiration, Make A Wish|

Hi Creative Friends,

I hope you are all well! Gwen here and I have another layout to share today and this one uses one of my all-time favourite collections – Make A Wish.  Whilst it’s a collection that you could scrap anything with, it is absolutely perfect for documenting birthday celebrations, so I thought why not create a page that celebrates my little Miss turning 8.

The design for the page was actually dictated by the fact that I have almost run out of paper for this collection.  I have quite a few embellishments left but not a lot of the paper, so I immediately thought to use a grid design, it’s a really great way to use up scraps.  I began by cutting 3×3 square pieces from the leftovers overs of the Party Dots, Loot Bag, Fresh Cut and Hip Hooray papers.  For added softness, I mounted these onto a piece of vellum from my stash.

Next, I found a few extra pieces that were large enough to mount my photo, I’ve used Loot Bag and Fresh Cut. I positioned it towards the left hand side of my page. Next, I went to the cut apart sheet Party Mix and fussy cut out the banner and birthday cake.  The fussy cut sheets are a must-have in any collection as you get oh so many elements for a great price!

To balance out my design, I decided to embellish just 2 of the squares in my grid, those towards the right hand side of the page.  To highlight these, I’ve used 2 of the frames from the Chipboard accent stickers pack.  I’ve then added the fussy cut birthday cake on top which I mounted with foam tape for dimension.

I’ve also added here elements from the Die Cut Ephemera, and more chipboard as well as a Flair Button and Enamel Dots.

For the 2nd square, I’ve used more Chipboard accent stickers and more from the Die Cut Ephemera pack.  I also found a few small wood veneer elements which don’t belong to a specific collection, Zoe had these for sale at the June Scrapbook Expo last year as little grab bags and I couldn’t resist getting a couple.

Lastly,  added another smaller cluster to the top left hand corner of my photo, this time also adding in some Bitty Blooms, I had almost forgotten about these cuties!   Then, looking at the layout I thought it was very ‘top heavy’, so I went and added in a couple more pieces from the Die Cut Ephemera pack as well as my title ‘eight’, which I have created using Thickers from my stash and that balanced things out nicely.

Thanks for popping by today, it was really fun to play with an older collection and I love how fun this one turned out.  Stay tuned as I have a heap of new projects coming up using the newest collection “More than Words” that I know you are going to love!

Until next time,

Gwen

ALL TOGETHER SWEET | LOVE ALWAYS | GWEN WRUCK

By | 2018-01-14T21:30:11+00:00 January 4th, 2018|Design Team, Inspiration, Love Always|

Hi Creative Friends,

Happy New Year to you all, I hope your Christmas break was full of fun!  Gwen with you on the blog today to share my latest project and its something a little different!

The Bouquet paper from the Love Always collection is one of my very favourites and the design for this page was inspired by it.  I wanted to play on the design of the paper and I knew I wanted to use it in the background.  I had a full sheet for my background, and then when I found a scrap, I had the idea to fussy cut it following along with the chevron design and then mount it on foam tape on top of the background page.  This then set the base for my photo mat and embellishments.  To make it stand out from the background, I added some pretty watercolour from my stash just around the edge.

Next, I wanted to lock in the position of my photo mat, I began with my paper layers using the Twin Set, Frolic and Class Act papers layered up on the right-hand side. To balance out the design, I added my tile to the left-hand side.  It is made up of some alphas from my stash, the Chipboard Accent Stickers and the word “sweet” is from the Wood Veneer pack.

I’ve also used Die Cut Ephemera pieces, Accessory Stickers, Puffy Stickers, Vellum Accents and Bitty Blooms to build 2 main embellishment clusters.  This collection as so many embellishment options, it’s hard not to choose all the things!  Below you can see a cute Puffy Sticker and a Chipboard piece.

I’ve also added a flair button and some sparkly enamel dots to finish and the page was done.  Below you can see another one of those cute Puffy Stickers, the stunning vellum and a bitty bloom.

Thanks for popping by today, I hope 2018 brings you a wonderful adventure.. and that you take the time to document it!

Until next time,

Gwen

MY FAVOURITES | BOHEMIAN DREAM and LOVE ALWAYS | GWEN WRUCK

By | 2017-12-31T13:19:27+00:00 December 18th, 2017|Bohemian Dream, Design Team, Inspiration, Love Always|

Hi Creative Friends,

Back on the blog today with something a little different.  This week for the Cocoa Vanilla Studios design team we have been asked to choose our favourite layouts for 2017.  I know right, how does one choose?  I so love all of the pages I created this year, so in my attempt to narrow it down I’ve chosen two layouts that best document significant parts of my year.  Often, I like to scrap everyday moments, but these 2 layouts were created to document two very special things.

First up, is “This HAPPY Life” created using the new Bohemian Dream collection.  This page was created to document Caitlin’s 10th Birthday.  It is a little different for me in that I used so many photos, but that is what I love about it!  I love that I can see at a glance how much she has grown up.  I also adore the colours in this collection, so bright and happy, the perfect fit for this page.

My second choice is “XOX” created using the Love Always collection (one of my all-time favourite collections).  I love the softness of this page and how it documents a huge part of my 2017, my starting back at Ballet. In January, I set a goal of getting back en pointe, and I’m really happy to say, I’ve managed it!  Yes, there is a lot of work to do before there will be pirouettes, but I am on my way!

Thanks for popping by today, and for all your support this year.

As this is my last blog post for the year, I’d like to wish you all a Merry Christmas, I hope you have a wonderful festive season and I’ll be back in 2018 with loads more inspiration for you all.

Until next time,

Gwen
