So Very Beautiful Together | Wild at Heart | Missy Whidden

Hey there, friends!  Missy here, and I’m sharing a new layout I created using the beautiful Wild At Heart collections.  We’re focusing on Mothers this week, so I scrapped one of my favorite photos of me, my mom and my sister.  I decided to fussy cut lots of those pretty butterflies from the Mariposa paper and use them as scattered embellishments around the page.  I used the Double Dot paper as my background.  I used some white acrylic paint to fade out a lot of the dots so my paints, photo and embellishments would pop off the page.  I used some Shimmerz sprays and paste to jazz up the background before adding everything on top of it.  I cut an oversized butterfly from Just Nick on my Cameo to use as a subtle background design element.

I love creating dimension, so I made sure not to glue the big butterfly down all the way.  I love how the edges of the wings stand up off the page.  I layered in some of the fussy cut butterflies as well as a Rubber Charm, some Accessory Stickers, a fussy cut banner piece and some Enamel Dots.  Look how sparkly and glittery they are!  So pretty.

I attached a butterfly here right on the edge of the photo.   I only glued down the left wing so the right one would fold up.  I also added in some dark pink and golden yellow thread here for added texture and color.

I love how the background work shows through the cut file here.  This color scheme is so pretty, and I just love how it looks.  I fussy cut that scalloped piece under the photo from the Fussy Cuts paper.

To get that deep reddish-pink color here, I first sprayed a pink Shimmerz spray and then used a red gelato over it and smudged it with my finger.  I love that rich color!  I added in a few more Accessory Stickers here above the photo as well.

Here’s one last close-up of the right side of the photo.  I added in a circle die cut from the Ephemera pack and more fussy cut butterflies.

I hope this inspires you to document a fun Mother’s Day photo.  I had so much fun making this!  I do have a process video if you’d like to see how I made this.

Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a wonderful day!

About the Author:

Missy hails from Central Florida in the United States, where she has lived her entire life. She has been married to husband Marshall for over 16 years, although they have been together for 22. They have two sweet little girls, Reese (10) and Paige (7). Both girls are autistic and nonverbal so life is never boring. Missy says "they have taught us so much and they are very happy children. They are the light of our lives and they make us laugh constantly". When Missy is not scrapping, she's a fitness instructor. She teaches six classes a week. Before having children, she taught high school English. She says she has always been interested in art and playing with paper and stickers, and began scrapbooking just before Reese was born in 2006. She was hooked instantly! Missy's style has changed quite a bit. Back when she started she used paper, stickers, and deco scissors. Over the years she discovered die cutting tools and mixed media products. Currently she loves to use watercolours, her Cameo, and her sewing machine on most of her projects; and she usually scraps photos of her children or family. She describes scrapbooking as her calming therapy that helps her to relax. "I try and do something scrappy related every day, and I just love it dearly." When she isn't creating, Missy also loves reading and catching up on her favourite TV shows.
